This area is well known as a haven for hunters. An abundance of pheasant, quail, turkey, deer, dove, ducks, and geese make the area one of the most popular hunting areas.
Webster State Park is a 880-acre prairie setting of rolling hills and spacious skies. Visitors often see deer, turkeys, quail, pheasants, and many wildflowers. The 3,700 acres of open water offer great fishing in Webster Reservoir.
The reservoir complements the picturesque Chalk Hills. The area’s mixed grass prairie, river, lake, marshes, and riparian trees and shrubs teem with wildlife. Located in the central flyway, the lake is a stopping place for many species of waterfowl and shorebirds and offers excellent opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts for hunting, wildlife watching and photography.
Webster Wildlife Area encompasses 8,018 acres mostly surrounding the Solomon River west of the reservoir. A variety of wildlife habitats are developed and maintained to enhance wildlife. The lake is known for its quality walleye, crappie, white bass, and channel catfish.

Agriculture

Typical crops in this area are dryland corn, milo, wheat and soybeans.  The grass can be baled and used for livestock.

Region & Climate

Rooks County, KS has a temperate climate with warm summers and mild winters. Average summer temperatures range from the upper 70s to the mid-80s, while winter temperatures can dip as low as the teens. Precipitation is generally moderate throughout the year, with most of it coming between April and July. Annually, Rooks County,  receives 25 inches of rain, 18 inches of snow, and 234 sunny days.

Rooks County is located in Northwest Kansas, halfway between Denver and Kansas City at the eastern edge of the Great Plains. The county’s approximate 5,000 people enjoy a quality of life that is attractive to people
seeking a simpler way of life.
Rooks county is home to multiple lakes, including, Webster Reservoir, Rooks County State Lake, and the Plainville Township Lake. Webster Reservoir and State Park is a 3,780 acre lake that has campgrounds, picnic areas, swimming, volleyball courts, shower houses, shelters, hiking trails, boat ramps, a fish cleaning station, electric hookups, and much more.
